Album Info:Here is a one-page article entitled "K-4 On Horseshoe Curve." It was published originally in the July-August 1957 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, page 15. No author is specified. "Locomotive No. 1361 was chosen because of its long history of service, and because the K-4's were the most famous class of the 6,873 locomotives built in Altoona. Put in service in 1918, it hauled trains of the PRR's passenger fleet for more than 35 years until retired for the diesel. Old No. 1361 rolled up 2,469,000 miles ~ equal to nearly 100 trips around the world." (Page 15) Also included is a B&W image that was recorded on the occasion.

Top Left Photo Caption: "Retired K-4 is refinished in Altoona shop that built it; J.R. Werner, G.W. Holland." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built during May of 1918, retired in September of 1956, enshrined at the Horseshoe Curve in June of 1957, restored for excursion service during 1987-1988, withdrawn from service and disassembled because of safety concerns, and is now being restored again for further excursion service. The ceremony to honor those who built and operated the PRR's fleet of steam locomotives took place on Saturday, 8 June 1957.

Description:  Here is an image that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 8 June 1957. The occasion is the dedication ceremony for the Pennsylvania Railroad's engine #1361, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1918 and retired in September of 1956 after amassing over 2,469,000 miles of faithful service. Note the locomotive bell that's affixed to the speaker's platform. The names of the photographer and of the dignitaries pictured here are not recorded.
