Album Info:One of the new "works in progress" that was on display at the Fort Wayne RR Historical Open House on this October 28-30th was Norfolk Southern SD9 #57. As the info poster explained, this unit was one of 2o SD-9 diesels built by EMD in 1957 for the Nickel Plate Road and was originially #358. It has a 16 cylinder engine on 6 axles. After being merged into the Norfolk Southern system, it became NS 57 and was retired in 2007. In 2010, it was generously donated by Norfolk Southern to the Fort Wayne RR Historical Society and will be returned to the prototypical Nickel Plate Road colors. Eventually it will be used in excursion service along with the steam engine NKP 765. From the looks of the loco now, it is definitely a work in progress . . . but well worth it to see a Nickel Plate Road diesel on the rails again!
