Description: |
Good looking photo by an unknown photographer captures this Altoona built K4s in the afternoon sun. Sadly, it went to the scrap line in April of 1949. Bet it headed up some fast moving passenger trains in its time though! Date and location are approximate. |

PRR 4-6-2 #5390 |
Description: |
Putting on a showy display as it heads up an afternoon passenger train, #5390 gives us an iconic view of passenger railroading in 1950. This K4s, built in 7/1924 by the Altoona shops, eventually was scrapped in 8/1956. R.G. Nugent photo credit. One of my favorite PRR Pacific action shots! |

PRR 4-6-2 #1361 |
Description: |
Built by the PRR shops in May of 1918, #1361 survives today albeit not in the same location. Interesting note by the unknown photographer -"K-4 #1361, an early K-4, gleams like new. (I was surprised to see a fence around this marvelous machine, felt it was a shame to cage it like a beast), here at it's permanent home at the curve. The locomotive is a gift to the city of Altoon from the PRR." Now preserved at the Altoona RR Memorial Museum |
