PRR E44 #4461
Title:  PRR E44 #4461
Description:  From all appearances, this is an early color photograph soon after #4461 and #4464 were delivered in 1963. Although not identified,I thought it might be the Meadows Yard in Kearney, NJ, where these brutes were often found but with Brian Ferrell's help and followup, I believe it is the PRR Yard an Enola, PA.. The unit was built by GE in 1963, had two single-arm Faiveley pantographs and could generate 4400 hp although not outfitted with steam generators for passenger use. According to Wikipedia, "The units were delivered in an entirely new paint scheme. While adorned in the familiar PRR Brunswick Green, the units carried the sans-serif road name in yellow, flanked by two small PRR keystones, together with a keystone on the front and rear, and a large yellow road number. This scheme was unique to the E44; all subsequent diesel orders omitted the road name." All E44's were retired in 1981 when Conrail eleminated electrification and sold to Amtrak. No exact date or photographer listed for this photo.
