Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9483, an FF-20 built by Fairbanks-Morse in November of 1948, rated at 2,000 horsepower, and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of service. ARB. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in September of 1959. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9483 and another "Erie-A" whose road number is not recorded. Both are FF-20's built by Fairbanks-Morse and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #9483 was built in November of 1948 and retired in December of 1963 after just 15 years of revenue service. They are about to pass under the 8th Street Bridge in Juniata on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |
