Here is page 13 of a 17-page version of the Pennsylvania Railroad's 13-page booklet entitled "Altoona Shops Inspection Trip ~ Sunday, May 16, 1937." It appeared in the September 1981 issue of "The Keystone" magazine, page 16. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "Bill Grant was at Altoona on May 16th and took this photo of I-1s 4484." #4484 is an I-1S built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in July of 1943, and retired in March of 1950. Middle Photo: Shown here is PRR engine #6926, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain' built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during 1926 and retired in September of 1955. PRR 2-10-0 #4481 - Pennsylvnaia RR
Description:
Built by Baldiwn between 1922-23, this I1s class decapod was known for sheer power. Running on 62" drivers and developing a massive 250 psi boiler pressure for its 30.5"x32" diameter & stroke cylinders, this engine tipped the scales at 548,500 lb and delivered a whopping tractive effort of 102,027 lb. In 1930 , a majority of the class were rebuilt with with Type E superheater w/o feed water heaters. Note thefireman filling the tender from ther yard standpipe in this photo. No photographer listed.

Here is a photo via Paul W. Prescott that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 August 1935. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #4592 and #6843. Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #4592 is an I-1S constructed during September of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in May of 1936, and retired in February of 1952. #6843 is an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built in September of 1926 and retired in March of 1957. In this context, they're pulling a westbound mail and express train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where the "Decapod" will be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for another assignment.
