Amtrak Sunnyside Yard Sunnyside, Queens, NY 18 November 2012 Amtrak #A 13044 [Tunnel Blower Car] Amtrak #A 89118 [Blower] Never saw one of these before! It appears to be a large blower fan mounted on a short railway car. I assume it would be used to evacuate smoke out of tunnels following a fire. Strangely, the blower housing carries a different number than the car. But even more unusual is the fact it is built on a European car chassis: Note the car with European style buffers, hook coupler and 4 wheels. |
