Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad E9 9987A at the 14th Street Zephyr Pit in Chicago, Illinois on March 7, 1965, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was the only CB&Q survivor of a head-on collision at Montogmery, Illinois in 1964. It was the third unit of a three unit set of locomotives that collided with a detouring Rock Island passenger train. The first two CB&Q locomotives were E7's and the lead unit was destroyed beyond repair, and the second was deemed uneconomical to repair. |
