ATSF 2-10-10-2 #3000 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe         
Ten massive locomotives were constructed by ATSF Shops in 1911-12 by joining two 2-10-2 units together with a low pressure engine supplied by Baldwin. A note on the back of the photo by the Santa Fe publicity department states "One of ten 2-10-10-2, or Mallet type, freight locomotives constructed in 1911 by joining two 2-10-2, or Santa Te type, locomotives together. They had a tractive force of 111,600 Ibs., a wheel base of 108 feet and a total length without tender of 120 feet. Commencing in 1915 they were converted to Santa Fe or 2-10-2 type freight locomotives." Photo credit goes to the Santa Fe publicisy department.
