Although listed as a 2-8-8-0 in the RRPA database, this loco was actually a 2-8-8-2 "Chesapeake" type steam locomoitve. According to a note from the Santa Fe publicity department on the back of the photo, Santa Fe purchased two of these 2-8-8-2 or Mallet type locomotives in 1909.Weight: 462,450 Ibs. without tender, they have a tractive force of 108,300 Ibs. and 63 inch driving wheels.In 1942 these locomotives were converted from Mallet to 2-8-2 Mikado type. |
