KCS SD40-2 666 at Heavener, Oklahoma on November 27, 1975, Kodachrome by Paul L. Strang, Chuck Zeiler collection. They weren't very proud of that number on the cab. Note the airplane balls (there's another one between the units) that should help narrow down the location. Paul adds the following; KCS 666 was shot at the then-new fueling facility at the north end of Heavener yard. It’s NB; looks like a SB next to it. The grass-strip airport was just on the other side of the tracks. It was used a lot back when the national hang-gliding championships were held on the mountain just to the east of the yard. They were moved to AZ shortly after these pictures were taken. |
