Southbound Auto Train  Contributor's Pick!
Here we see UP Train AASEW 23 pulling out of Bernie Siding after meeting a northbound intermodal, and the conductor checking out an "Excessive Movement" defect that an employee detected during a roll-by while leaving the crew change. It turned out to be a false alarm and the conductor was trying to hitch a ride to the front of his train. I heard the scanner signal very strong when he finished the northbound's roll-by and then we passed him on the highway and I saw his radio so we went back and got him and took him to the front of his train. He was pretty grateful since it was about a mile walk, and it was already getting hot this morning. Providing most of the smoke was the last unit in the consist, a leased GP38-2.
