| This photo is a bit fuzzy because it was made from a small section of a telephoto shot. It shows a pair of eastbound Missouri Pacific trains that were parked just west of the railroad's Avondale Yard, waiting to get in. On the left was Southern run-through train HNS (Houston-New Orleans to the Southern) with SD40-2 3239, SD45 3161 and SD40 3183; while next to it was an unidentified train with GP38-2 2251, U23B 4505 and GP38-2 2292. The next year the MP would merge with the UP and the Southern would merge with the Norfolk & Western, so scenes like this would soon disappear. |
