Interesting car with a varied history. Originally in 1930 by Pullman as sleeper "Balsam Fir", 1 of 13 such sleepers built and 4 were acquired by UP at the 12/31/1948 Pullman divestiture. In 1962, the BALSAM FIR was withdrawn from Pullman lease, and in 1963 was rebuilt to dynamometer #903001. In 1964, the #903001 was modified to mobile laboratory #210. The #210 was later stored at Council Bluffs and then at Cheyenne before being upgraded and placed back into service; the car was outshopped in April 2013 and repainted in May; it was also assigned an Amtrak #800847. Exact date and location as well as photographer were not given for the photo. |
