MON C628 #407 - Monon RR
Built by Alco in March of 1964, Monon C628 #407 and its sisters caused many headaches on the Monon RR as their power continually damaged the rails. Hammond rail fan Mark Stanek caught this C628 #407 sitting quietly in the Monon South Hammond Yard. After too many frustrations with the model, Monon finally traded all of them into Alco for smaller C420's in 1967. Alco promptly resold them to Lehigh Valley in November 12, 1967. LV did not experience the rail damage problem that Monon did. The model continued into the Conrail era where they were eventually scrapped in 1978.
