Southbound Gulf Mobile & Ohio train No. 33 was beginning its trip over the Southern Railway’s 5.5-miles trestle across the eastern end of Lake Pontchartrain. The GM&O had trackage rights over 28 miles of the Southern, between Slidell and OLIVER JUNCTION in New Orleans. The power for this train was GP35 638, GP30 509 and GP35 640.
