Rotary Snowplow 211, still stenciled for SP Maintenance of Way, sits on a yard track at Roseville. The structure to the right of the B-unit houses other rotary snowplows, flangers, and Jordan spreaders. Most of the spreaders, however, are stationed at Truckee. The rotary was built in the late 1920s, and was later converted to diesel power, with the help of SPMW F7B 8211 behind it. The B-uint was built in 1953, and was converted into a "snail" in the late 60s. A few of these brutes are still owned by UP, and 4 are preserved in Sacramento, Portola, Truckee, and the 4th on display at the East end of Roseville Yard. Taken from Amtrak #6, EB California Zephyr. |
