DRGW 2-8-8-2 #3603 - Denver & Rio Grande Western
Nice ALCO-Brooks builder's photo of Denver & Rio Grande Western 2-8-8-2 #3603. With its tall 63" drivers and its massive 131,800 lb tractive effort, this was a formidable locomotive well suited to the Western mountain range. It served the DRGW through and past WW II only to meet up with the scrapper's torch eventually in October of 1956. Original specs - 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, massive engine wt of 649,000 lb, exceptional tractive effort of 131,800 lb.
