Niles 1. Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 14 September 1940. Partial Caption: "One of the helper engines coming down into Curve, looking uphill, note siding, count tracks, Altoona, Pa." Shown here on Track 1 is an unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" steam locomotive rounding the Curve on its way back down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona for another assignment. Note the PRR boxcar parked on the wye track, just beyond Milepost #242.
