Coming up on the old steam plant for Madison College  Contributor's Pick!       
When I was a kid I remember coal hoppers parked along this old steam plant, built of Blue Stone which serviced Madison College in 1909. As far as I know, the plant still serves its orgional function but not with coal.

Zachary DeVore General I never saw the cars there, but I do remember there was still a siding well into the 1990s. Most of the Virginia public colleges/universities and other state properties have their own "power plants." Know that Virginia sometimes sited state institutions based on the availability of rail service. 5/11/2007 12:26:38 PM
