Title:
PRR 9878, EF-15A, 1966
Description:
Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in May of 1966. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9878 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9878 is an EF-15A built in September of 1952. In this context, they're rounding the Curve with a 20-car mixed-cargo freight train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to the Eastbound Receiving Yards in Altoona. (#37 of 39)
