Coal on the old LV
Title:  Coal on the old LV
Description:  One of the few remaining segments of the Lehigh Valley in New York was the line from Sayre PA to Ludlowville, north of Ithaca. It was a good moneymaker for Conrail, as it hosted three coal trains weekly going to the NYSEG plant there, as well as salt loads out from Cargill. Occasionally Cornell would get coal for its boilers. This train has just changed ends at Sayre and is sitting by the former station, now a restaurant, as it gets ready to go north.

Description:  3 consecutive numbered C39's ready one of the few dirt trains to run from Wayne/Lincoln Park to Jersey City. The dirt was carried in soon to be retired Conrail ore jenny's to a golf course under construction in Liberty State Park. Everything in this phot from the rails, to the freight cars to the railroad to the locomotives are now a memory. Date approximate, from a Koadchrome 200 slide.

Description:  Conrail 6008 and Conrail 6010 back a cut of ore jennies into a loading track for a wetlands reclamation project in Wayne, NJ 5/1995. The fill the train is running on was removed after the project was over. Today you cant even tell there was tracks or a fill at this location!!
