NJT E8A #4285 - New Jersey Transit
Originally built as NYC E8A 4080 in August of 1953, the loco survived the NYC/PC collapse and wound up in commuter service for the New Jersey Transit. After that service was over, the loco ended up back in the NYC lightning color scheme with RPCX #4080 as its number as of 2015 based on a photo in the RRPA database.. Unfortunately,no photographer, location or exact day in 1981 was given for the photo. With help from Steve Coraggio & Tom Beckett (see comments below), the location is now identified as South Amboy, NJ. Thanks guys for your help!!!

Steve Coraggio General Great nose shot of NJT 4285. I believe this location is South Amboy, NJ. looking at the pedestrain bridge to the right of 4285 and the two tracks on the west side (South). 7/9/2024 8:03:16 PM
Tom Beckett General That's South Amboy, as my friend Steve Corragio states. I'd guess the unit is one of two-they almost always ran in pairs, sometimes three unit sets, but mostly two-that has just coupled to a train from NY Penn Station, that came down from there pulled by a GG 1. The G's would cut off here, and go to the engine house, to the east of the station. The E's would pull down from the engine house prior to the train arriving and stage in a pocket track. When the train arrived, the G would cut off and go to the house, and the E's would couple on and go to the end of the line at Bay Head Jct. New York bound trains would to the reverse. These were shown in the timetable as 3300 series train, and were originally PRR schedules. CNJ trains also ran here, originating, by this time, in Newark Penn Station, and were generally pulled by GP 40P 7/10/2024 4:33:57 AM
Tom Beckett General (continued) GP 40P's, and sometimes GP 7's. These trains pre 1967 7/10/2024 4:35:06 AM
Tom Beckett General These trains pre 1967 Aldene Plan, originated at Jersey Central's Communipaw Av terminal in Jersey City. Sorry for the disjointed comments. I can't type tonight. :-( 7/10/2024 4:35:59 AM
